Creative Space appointed to manage Toffee Factory

June 1, 2011

Toffee Factory, a groundbreaking new development in Ouseburn, Newcastle, which will offer state-of-the-art office facilities on the banks of the Tyne, took a significant step forward today with the announcement of Creative Space Management as operator of the building.

1NG, the NewcastleGateshead city development company, has appointed the award-winning facilities management and consultancy company to operate the former Maynards factory. Work begins immediately on fit-out and pre-letting.

Toffee Factory, in the Lower Ouseburn Valley will provide approximately 1,500sqm of managed space in 25 offices and is due to open in December 2011, after the 12-month refurbishment project. It will retain much of its existing facade and charm, but will include state-of-the-art office facilities which offer move-on accommodation for creative businesses.

The facility will appeal to creative businesses looking to capitalise on the appeal of Ouseburn which is home to a host of great pubs and cafes, an urban farm, Seven Stories, Northern Print, Biscuit Factory, over 200 visual arts studios; music, art, cinema and theatre facilities and 2,000 people working in the creative industries.

Peter McIntyre, 1NG Project Director said: We are confident we have secured a great team to run the Toffee Factory and attract businesses there. Enquiries from interested parties are already stacking up. We have appointed Creative Space as operators because of their ambitious vision for the building and the experience and knowledge of creative industries that they bring which will be invaluable to the success of the facility.

Toby Hyam of Creative Space Management, said: Toffee Factory will appeal to creative companies seeking creative space on flexible terms. Its high ceilings and mix of contemporary and restored workspace overlooking the Ouseburn will make it an exceptional building. With an elegant chimney sitting at the heart of the building, a roof terrace and an open courtyard nestling beside the river, this is a fantastic location for any business wanting proximity to the quayside and to the cluster of creative businesses already located in the Ouseburn Valley. We expect interest to be high from across the country and encourage anyone thinking of relocating to get in touch.

Creative Space first became involved in Toffee Factory in 2009, when the company was appointed to undertake business planning for the proposed facility.

Anyone interested in space at Toffee Factory should call Paul Fallon on 0845 456 2203.
