Thousands enjoyed The Big M and The Big Mmmm

May 21, 2013

Toffee Factory welcomed a total of 2184 visitors this weekend, as part of The Late Shows cultural crawl. Toffee Factory’s management team, Creative Space brought Isis Arts and their Big M to Ouseburn for the first time and the attendance figures exceeded even their expectations.

Lisa Tolan for Creative Space Management said:

‘The Late Shows weekend is always great fun and we were thrilled that people in their thousands chose to brave the elements and visit Toffee Factory and our many Ouseburn neighbours. There was such a buzz around the event – a really lovely atmosphere. It was great to work with Isis Arts on this and host such an inspiring programme.’

In spite of the unseasonably cold weather art and food lovers weren’t deterred:

The Big M generated great interest and pulled in large crowds

Fat Hippo’s chilli dogs went down a storm

Teasy Does It’s popcorn-themed cupcakes will undoubtedly be going down in the legend of cinema food

Archers Jersey Ice Cream served up a number of tasty toffee themed flavours

And Ouseburn Coffee rounded it all off nicely with their warming brews.

The Late Shows is now in its seventh year and this year more than 60 venues were involved across Newcastle and Gateshead.

Bill Griffiths, Senior Manager of Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums, said:

‘It was fantastic to see the Toffee Factory joining The Late Shows again. The lighting made it so welcoming, as did the aroma of sausages and coffee from the courtyard! To see people queuing to get into the Big M to see the artwork inside was just great. I for one cannot wait to see what the Toffee Factory team produce for next year!’

Following the premiere at Toffee Factory, ‘On the Precipice’ will tour in The Big M, visiting a wide range of regional venues, Saltwell Park, The Links, mima, Woodhorn Museum & Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival as part of the Festival of the North East this summer, www.festivalne.com
